A trench coat is your best friend this season
Like all classic pieces it’s incredibly versatile. Whatever you wear underneath becomes chic and timeless. To show you what I mean, here’s three different ways I like to wear mine…
The jeans and jumpers uniform
This is my winter uniform. By February it’s easy to feel tired of it. Adding a trench coat gives this plain outfit a completely different feel. Suddenly, it feels light and spring-like. My H&M trench is oversized, so you still fit your thickest jumpers underneath on cold days. Also, because it’s quite voluminous, I go with a simple slim legged, mom-style jean.
Floral dresses don’t have to be girly
I love floral dresses, but I actually don’t like looking too girly while I’m wearing them. A trench coat is the perfect solution. It adds a casual air to an otherwise fussy outfit, making it feel quite androgynous too. Great now with tights and ankle boots…equally good with bare legs and trainers in a few months.
Leopard is a neutral
I’m sure Pat Butcher in EastEnders had a trench coat like this at some point in the 90s. She’d have worn it with leopard print, and so can you. The plain style of the trench cleverly tones down the brashness of the leopard and proves that animal prints most definitely are a neutral!
