Finally it’s the summer holidays!
The first half of this week was dominated by the build up to the end of term. Tying up loose ends. Getting teacher presents ready…
The last day of term was an emotional rollercoaster. It was Tom’s last ever morning in nursery and the lovely hugs he gave the staff reduced me to tears. He’s had such a fantastic experience there over the last year and a half. We’re all going to miss it. The end of an era. I still feel really blubbery about it – time marching on and all that. I’m sure I’ll be writing about these feelings a lot more come September.
The highlight of this week has been dog-sitting our neighbour’s beautiful labrador, Rosie, for a few days. The whole experience has been a real delight and I’ve loved having a bit of female solidarity. As well as enjoying the cuddles, it’s also been a really useful experience for me as I’ve been able to see how a dog might fit into our lives. Admittedly, Rosie is a very well-trained older dog, but it’s all still useful experience and has helped make my mind up. More of that in a later post.
Going on dog walks was particularly lovely. I got to re-visit old haunts and remind myself what a calming, head-clearing experience it is. The boys also loved having her around.
She’s gone home now and feel really rather bereft. Hopefully we’ll get to look after her again soon.
We’re having a relaxed start to the holidays. I’m leaving the boys to do their own thing – meanwhile I’m trying to get some much-needed cleaning done in the house! Today the kitchen window sill has been cleaned and decorated with a pretty posy.
This week my word of the week has to be emotional.

Sounds like a lovely week, though full of emotions, too. My girl cried when she finished last week as she’ll miss her teacher and her classroom?!, though she will still be with the same class in Y1. Oh yes, the end of an era at nursery is very emotional esp when we see how attached the children have become of their teachers. For me, I got very emotional when they put together a little pack for my boy with his Teddy Bear name tag which was hanging over his nursery peg! But you’ve had the Dog Sitting to take your mind of it, which does look great – the dilemma of owning a pet is a difficult one; such a commitment!

Oh the end of an era! My youngest finished nursery and it was really WEIRD saying goodbye and thank you to the two ladies who’ve taught both him and his bigger brother. I coped by shamelessly deferring my emotions: I’m the secretary on the committee for the nursery, and my tenure doesn’t run out til October’s AGM, so I just told myself that it wasn’t really goodbye! The AGM is an evening thing with wine though so goodness knows what a blubbery wreak I’ll be then!
I am still tearful about it now…goodness knows what I’ll be like come September! x
