My word of the week is…
It could just as easily have been mess or clutter. Thanks to two small children, there are areas of our house which haven’t been cleaned properly since we moved in four years ago – hello, jam-packed kitchen cupboards and the heap of filing that’s fallen behind the fridge. There just aren’t enough hours in the day, are there?
I will make a start on the mega-clean at some point, but for now I’ve been finding comfort in the beautiful new things are that shooting up in the garden. For the last few week’s we’ve been revelling in the pink blossom everywhere, but that’s all been blown away now and has been replaced by some really exciting colours.
I really love purple flowers and last Autumn I planted lots of new Allium bulbs. This week they have started to open, and what a joy they are…
I planted, this Aquilegia last year and it’s doing really well…
Our beautiful lilac bush is also in full bloom. The scent is wonderful and I wish it wasn’t so fleeting. The weather has been pretty chilly of late and I’m sorry not to have spent more time sitting under it this year.
Here’s a quick watercolour I painted…
While pottering out in the garden today I was delighted to find this little pansy flowering in the compost bucket! I’d cleared it out of a pot weeks ago and the tenacious little thing is still clinging on. So pretty and unexpected.
Even one of our evergreen shrubs has a lovely purpley-tinge to it at the moment…
And finally, here are some little wild flowers. I’ve forgotten what they’re called…
I’m already looking forward to seeing what pops up in the garden next. There should be some beautiful bright blue delphiniums on the way soon, followed by some delicate white cosmos.

It’s all looking so pretty and purple out in your garden. My alliums are all just on the cusp of blooming and I’m really looking forward to seeing them as I love them, too. I have aquilegia everywhere! It really spreads, doesn’t it?! Your lilac is so gorgeous. We have lots of purple in our garden now that you mention it. Beautiful x Thanks so much for sharing and joining in with #WotW x

I love Alliums (we missed planting our bulbs last autumn, sadly). Brilliant water colour and Purple is my daughter’s favourite colour so a great choice for a word of the week.

Thanks Tracey! We are also going through a bit of a garden revamp too (new fences and hopefully a new vegetable patch) but it’s still very much in the messy stages! It’s amazing what a difference it makes though when things start blooming x
