I’m Lizzie, welcome to my new blog, Marmalade Pie.
I’ve always meant to start a blog, but somehow never quite got round to it. It might have something to do with the fact that for the last five years I’ve been busy concentrating on being a mother…and forgetting to do anything else!
But now feels like the right time. I’ve just turned 30 and with my eldest son at school all day, and my youngest at nursery school every morning, I’ve got a little more time on my hands at last. I feel like it’s time to start writing again and I love the idea that through this blog I can record our lives and start making an effort to take more interesting photos…and actually do something with them!
I’d like to share with you all the things I like and the things we get up to as a family – anything from recipes, crafts and fashion, through to our many visits to Norman castles.
Marmalade Pie is a name I thought of years ago, which I’ve imagined using for all the various small business ideas I’ve dreamt about in the past (everything from hand knitted baby clothes, interiors shops to cookery) and I thought it was finally time to bring it out of mothballs.
To kick things off here’s a bit more about me and my family…
I live with my husband James and my two boys Gabriel (5) and Tom (3) in Ely, Cambridgeshire. Ely is a small cathedral city close to Cambridge, which used to boast being the smallest city in the UK – until it had a growth spurt in recent years. It’s a pretty quiet place to live – a bit of a back water at times – but it’s a fantastic place to raise a family.
I grew up here in the Fens, but James is from Leicestershire. After a brief spell living in London, we were drawn to Ely in order to buy our first home together. Eight years later, we’re on house number two and very settled…although, just occasionally, we get a bit fed up with all the flatness and long for a few hills to climb or a bit of sea.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the blog to come!
