Our house is a total tip this week. Our fridge/freezer broke down last week and we had a new one delivered today. I can’t believe how much mess sorting it out has generated. We had to defrost the freezer, dispose of the ancient contents and deal with four year’s worth of dirt and dust. Maybe there are some virtuous people who clean behind their fridges every year – sadly, I’m not one of them. As soon as you start having to use all your time on extra chores, the rest of the house slips into complete squalor surprisingly quicky.
Oh well. I’m not on top of the mess yet, but I have been enjoying some pretty things amidst the chaos. The heady scent of freshly picked sweetpeas from my mum’s garden…
My sweetpeas aren’t quite ready yet, but they’re almost there…
These sweetpeas are waiting to be moved to a better spot when the new fence goes up. On which note, we finally recieved a special delivery today…
Weather permitting, fence-building should be happening this weekend. I’d like to get it painted at some point, but I think we’ll save this job for the Autumn when there’s less growing. I can’t wait to have a decent fence again without massive holes in it!
Heading back indoors, come and say hello to my first succulent…
Hopefully we’ll be ship-shape again soon!

Sorry to hear about that massive upheaval! It is a hassle when a fridge dies, a massive inconvenience, and sometimes can be really expensive too if you have a lot of good stuff in the freezer 🙁 Beautiful flowers though, sometimes pretty little things make it a bit easier to deal with the rest of the crappiness! #homeetc

Fortunately our freezer was mostly filled with manky old fish fingers and unidentified pots of stuff, so it was a good opportunity to bin it all and start again! x

Hope things are sorted soon, and I’m with you there’s much more important things to do than clean behind the fridge/freezer. Good luck with the fencing too #HomeEtc

Thanks Stephanie! I’m glad it’s not just me who ignores the hidden world lurking behind the fridge! x

Sweet peas are my favourite! My first few flowers have started to appear but not enough to pick just yet! I never clean behind my fridge either and was mortified when it broke and the engineer pulled it out!! Hope you get back to normality soon, Tracy xx #HomeEtc

Thank you Tracy! I can’t wait for my sweet peas to start flowering – although my mum’s ones are always wonderful and much bigger than mine (I think because she over-winters hers). x

I can safely say you are NOT the only who doesn’t clean behind their fridge-freezer, I don’t either! But the sweetpeas are just beautiful, I tried to grow some in the previous house we were renting but didn’t have a clue what I was doing, maybe I’ll try again when I’m feeling brave X #HomeEtc

I find I can ignore dirt and dust fairly well if I can’t see it, but once it’s exposed it drives me mad! My mum’s sweet peas are always fantastic. The ones I’m growing are doing well though – I bought them as tiny seedlings in Sainsbury’s a few months ago – you should try them, they’re super easy if you buy them as plug plants x

Sweet peas! My poppa always had loads growing on his allotment, it just makes me think of the happiest parts of life. (I like the jug they’re in too by the way!) Good luck with all the updates. Don’t worry about the fridge/freezer: you should see the state of my oven!

Thanks Katie – I love sweet peas too, such a wonderful scent and this giant bunch from my mum is a real treat! x

Sweet peas smell divine! We’re just deciding on a few things to plant in our front garden and they are top of my list.
