FANCY SOME WEEKEND INSPIRATION? HERE’S MY LIST OF THINGS TO DO, SEE, WEAR AND EAT…
Go on a magnolia hunt
The magnolia trees are blooming a month earlier than last year. Some trees are already in full bloom, others are just on the cusp. Search for them in your local park, or in front gardens as you wander round town. They’re magnificent! If you’re lucky enough to have a tree of your own, bring a branch inside the house and watch it bloom.
Go easy in mom jeans
Are you stuck in a jeans rut? I’ve spent years wearing skinnies and I’m never entirely convinced that they suit me. I’m gradually breaking free and wearing new shapes. My favourite is the high-waisted mom jean, which are generous in the leg and tapered at the ankle. It’s the comfiest jean style for me with no pinching or squeezing! This pair from Seasalt are soft and comfortable – perfect for lazy weekend days.
Flick through a coffee table book
I read fiction everyday, but when it’s the weekend I love flicking through big coffee table books. Take the time to brew some coffee and look though a favourite old recipe book for some ideas. Or transport yourself to a different world through a book of photography. A brand new book is a lovely thing, although I’m also a big fan of my local library for big books I might only enjoy looking at once.
Wear the pretty dress
Earlier in the week I chatted to Ina from Jensen’s, a Danish clothes shop in Ely. One of her top tips for looking and feeling your best was to stop saving clothes ‘for best’. This weekend I’m going to take her advice and wear some pretty new dresses I’ve been saving for warmer weather. Instead of waiting I’m going enjoy wearing them now with tights!
Watch Traitors on Channel 4
This spy drama set just after the end of the Second World War has got me hooked! The drab, brownness of the post-war setting is wonderfully offset by the tense drama of soviet agents and pushy Americans. I’m all caught up now on the first three episodes, and can’t wait for the next instalment on Sunday night. Available now on All4
