The weather’s been glorious again this week, hasn’t it? We made the most of it on Saturday and caught up with some DIY outside. The front door and outside windowsill have been repainted – we even cleaned the windows!
On Sunday, we took advantage of the amazing weather and went down to the river. We were hoping to go on one of the narrowboat tours that run from there through the summer, but they were nowhere to be seen, which was disappointing.
Whilst consoling ourselves with a 99 ice cream, we spotted the rather silly looking nautical cycles which are available to rent on the river. It’s like a pedalo crossed with a bicycle, with two sticking-out floating things (technical term) so you don’t sink. I couldn’t bring myself to try one, so James took the boys out on them for 15 minutes each. The boys had a saddle, but no pedals – so it was James doing all the work and it was quite heavy-going by all accounts! The boys absolutely loved it. Maybe I’ll be brave enough another time…
On Monday I hosted my very own Bake Off…
I was the only contestant, so there wasn’t much competition. It was great to get stuck into some really technical baking – my first ever cinnamon buns!
My other big event of the week was helping out on my son’s school trip to the town museum. It went really well and the children were delighted/awe-struck to meet Hereward the Wake. I do find that many children en masse pretty exhausting though (even though I was only actually in charge of two of them). Teachers, you have my full respect.

Oh what a nice surprise – thank you for linking to my post! I had to scroll fast through your cinnamon bun recipe earlier this week to avoid making them myself as they looked so amazing – trying to be good after one too many bars of Green & Black’s sea salt milk chocolate (Addictive. Don’t buy it!) x
Puppies!!! I had a labrador growing up. I think you’ve made an excellent choice! And if you need a dog sitter I’d like to volunteer?! Good work on the solo bake off, those cinnamon buns look delicious. I’m also a big fan of tackling a new recipe if I have a bit of spare time – I find it oddly therapeutic!
