I’m feeling a bit lost this week. It’s a big week for my youngest son, who’s starting in reception. It’s a big week for me too, with a lot of mixed feelings.
To soothe these feelings, I’m concentrating on simple things. I love Autumn and looking for pretty flowers and other natural finds is a great head-clearing exercise.
Yesterday I wandered out into our garden in search of pretty blooms for the house. Thanks to the wet weather, the garden is very lush and lots of things are still flowering. The Dahlias I bought on the market a few months ago, are thriving. As is the pretty purple Verbena. The Kerria is having a second flush of pretty yellow flowers too. I also snipped off a few bits of evergreen shrubs and one of the boys’ miniature sunflowers.
A little bit of snipping and arranging later…
I love the combination of colours here – it’s classic late summer, early autumn.
I’ve been busy pinning lots of new Autumn ideas over on Pinterest – do take a look!

Gorgeous! My dahlias are not faring so well. I think it’s terminal. The littlest and I are off to the flower market this morning to pick up some fresh flowers for the house. I haven’t bought any for a couple of weeks and I miss them.

Thanks Rachel…sorry to hear your dahlias have suffered? I must say I didn’t do anything special with mine, but they always seem to do really well in our garden – maybe it’s the soil or the weather?

You’ve reached a significant stage in your life this week, so I guess you’re bound to have a lot of powerful mixed emotions XXXXXXX
marmaladepie says
Exactly – it’s not exactly negative, just a bit confusing and difficult.

Hope you’re doing okay Lizzie. Fill your time up and focus on the positives for both of you! Also, it doesn’t hurt to treat yourself to something really treaty during your ‘me’ time to make you count your blessings! xx

Gorgeous arrangement, it’s the one good thing about plenty of wet weather. I revert to little things too when things are emotionally tricky. I hope you are both ok x x x

Thanks Caro – it definitely takes a while for them to settle in. Especially a younger child who will always feel like the baby of the family! x

Gorgeous picture and gorgeous flowers! Just goes to show you don’t always need a huge bouquet to make a statement. I actually have some of the smaller yellow flowers in my garden (sorry don’t know the name – I recognise the dahlias and verbena but that’s about it!), might have to go and cut some and see what else I can find. They’d look nice in an old blue mason I’ve got. 🙂 #HomeEtc

Thank you! I’m so happy it’s inspired you to go out in the garden. The yellow flowers are from a Kerri Japonica – a flowering shrub. It seems to flower a few times a year in our garden. The yellow would go so well with a bit of blue and white china x
