Children’s crafts: Make your own Easter garland

I love garlands and I’ve seen some beautiful ones in the shops lately. Here’s a simple and thrifty way to make your own pretty ones with the kids this Easter.

You will need paper plates, glue and lots of decorations. We used:

Pom-poms (I made ours with a small pom-pom maker, but you could easily buy some)
Ribbon
Feathers
Pretty Easter decorations (these are everywhere in the shops at the moment, we used a box of felt table confetti from Waitrose)
Some tiny faux flowers (our came from Wilko, and I trimmed them down)

1. Cut the middle out of your paper plate so you are left with the outer, ridged rim. Turn the ring so the shiny side is facing downwards – the glue sticks better to the rougher side.

2. Give your children some runny glue and let them get sticking! Try to cover as much as the ring as possible – the more there is, the prettier it looks! Our pom-poms were quite large so they were a little tricky to attach, but were fine once the glue had dried. Shop-bought, teeny-tiny pom-poms, would have been easier.

 

3. Leave to dry.

4. Once dry, punch a hole in the ring and thread a pretty ribbon though, tying the ends.

5. Find somewhere to hang your beautiful wreath!

For a more grown-up version of this wreath, try weaving similar decorations into a ready-made wicker ring. I have had this one for years – you can buy a similar one here. I tied on pom-poms, wove some longer faux flower stems in and attached a few plastic egg decorations. This would look lovely on your front-door at Easter. For, now its brightening up our kitchen!
